Character Name: Neville Longbottom
Character Series: Harry Potter
Character Age: 15
Background: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Neville_Longbottom Neville is taken post Order of the Phoenix

Personality:

One of the most immediately obvious things about Neville is that he is rather absentminded. While he has gotten this somewhat under control at this point, he still often forgets where he left things. This has created a considerable challenge for him in his schoolwork. He also finds it very frustrating as he doesn't like disappointing people when he has to admit he has forgotten something again.

Confidence is something that Neville has struggled with from a young age. His family's suspicion that he might be a squib did not do much for young Neville's self esteem. However, his time with the DA has done a great deal to improve his confidence. Additionally, discovering that he does in fact have quite an aptitude for Herbology has helped. so while it's still a place where he has room to grow at this stage, he is slowly coming to realize that he is in fact a very good wizard.

As a Gryffindor, Neville has a great deal of courage. Some people might question his Sorting at first glance, as being courageous is not to be confused with being fearless. A great deal of the situations he has encountered have frightened him. However, he has shown true courage in proceeding to face the situation anyway.

That said, Neville would have also made an excellent Hufflepuff. He is an extremely loyal friend. That does not make him a pushover. He is not afraid to stand up to his friends if he believes them to be on the wrong path. Even in first year when he struggled with self-confidence, he learned to muster the courage to do that. When he finds a cause to believe in, he is very dedicated to it.

Neville has a strong sense of right and wrong. One of the major driving forces in his learning to overcome his fears and insecurities was the thought of Bellatrix Lestrange being loose to cause other people the same pain she caused him. Faced with the growing Voldemort troubles or something (slightly) more mundane such as Umbridge's DADA classes, Neville is not afraid to take risks for what he knows is right. He very much wants to be able to protect people. Though it's still two years off, the seeds of the boy who will run the Hogwarts resistance are already starting to sprout.

While his confidence has been growing, Neville has maintained his humility. Despite coming from a Pureblood family, he does not harbour the same prejudices that some segments of that society harbour. He no longer considers himself to be an inferior wizard, he does not consider himself to be above anyone. Perhaps due to his own struggles making friends in first year, he is not one who is quick to judge people who don't quite fit in.

Abilities: Neville's magical education has been fairly standard. He struggles with potions, is average at transfiguration and above average at charms. His areas of particular expertise are herbology (a passion) and defence agains the dark arts, thanks largely to his membership in the DA.

Sample Entry:

I was never exactly awful at Muggle Studies. Not like Potions, at any rate, I did okay. But here everything is Muggle Studies. I think I'm in a bit over my head. I'm supposed to have been learning this all my life but there's nothing about Merlin in these history books.

And then science. Some of it looks like herbology and potions, but not really. So basically, what I'm trying to say is...
